Calculation of Earned Leave

                          Before you are going to start reading this post, I want to tell you that this post is the most important and most useful among all of the posts on this website.                          In this post, we will discuss how we can calculate earned leave. We have thoroughly studied each kind of leave in our previous post that how many types of leave are available for a government employee. Here we will only discuss the calculation of earned leave. There are thousands of employees who are always want to know about how many leaves are at their credit.

So let's first of all start with 'Earned Leave'

                    As per rule 8.116 of Punjab CSR Volume 1 Part 1, the Earned leave is admissible to a permanent government employee is:-

1/24th of the period spent on duty, for the first 10 years of service,

1/18th of the period spent on duty during the next 10 years of duty and;

1/12th of the period spent on duty after 20 years of service.

                    Now let's do a practical. Suppose Mr. A has Joined as a regular government employee on 15-01-1998. He has taken earned leave from 01-01-2005 to 31-01-2005 and from 15-6-2014 to 30-06-2014. His Earned leave will be calculated as follows:-

                          In the above fig. in Leave earned column 23/24, 14/18 and 3/12 comes when we divide total no. of days with 24,18 and 12 respectively. It means 24,18 and 12 are divisors and 23,14,3 are the remainders and 105,72 and 29 are quotients. So Earned leaves at credit as of 1-1-2019 is 337+3/12.
Quick Calculation of Earned Leave:-

1. If no earned leave is taken by an employee during the first 10 Years of service then total Earned Leaves at his credit are 150.
2. If no earned leave is taken by an employee during the next 10 Years of service then total Earned Leaves at his credit are 350 that is 150+200.
3. If no earned leave is taken by an employee during the next 10 Years of service then total Earned Leaves at his credit are 650(300+350) subject to a maximum 450 because as per rule 8.116(ii) of the Punjab CSR volume 1 part 1 accumulation of earned leave is permissible up to 450 days.
